Catchment Science and Data Manager

The Catchment Science and Data Manager will lead the Catchment Science and Data Team and develop an evidence base for data driven decision-making across all our catchment improvement work. With a clear understanding of environmental data, ecosystem service metrics, and environmental markets the role will unlock landscape scale restoration through effective and sustainable ecosystem services payments.

You will lead our Catchment Science and Data Team comprised of technical experts (e.g. ecologists, geomorphologists, and spatial data analysts) collectively providing the evidence base to inform the work of the Trust. You will encourage learning, development, and innovation in how we collect, interpret, and use data.

Bringing your own comprehensive understanding of environmental data and natural capital/environmental markets, you will support the Trust to link environmental improvement activities to appropriate funding mechanisms.

You’ll brief upwards ensuring the leadership has the situational awareness and actionable information they need to stay up to date and make good decisions, writing papers (and business cases) where needed. You will keep track of what is going on—and report on progress and financial performance. You will be asked for your opinions and input into a wide range of topics and may be tasked to lead or help lead on certain new initiatives or work fronts.

You will be assessing existing environmental data to derive insights and identify gaps, where necessary commission research/survey/study to improve our knowledge. And you will ensure that we inject data and evidence into project development, design, and delivery across our activities in collaboration with our teams.

You will be supporting the Trust to explore new and potential environmental markets, sharing learning with partner organisations. Looking across the Rivers Trust Movement and wider environmental sector, you will bring novel initiatives, good practice, and good principles in Environmental Markets to the Trust’s thinking.

You’ll help us continue to develop a brave, confident, capable, and well-respected organisation—that people want to work with and for. You will have your finger on the pulse of the relevant things happening within the catchment, the Rivers Trust movement, and generally across the sector.
