In the aftermath of catastrophic floods that wreaked havoc across Texas this week, the eyes of the world now divert their gaze upon London, where, on the 27th & 28th of September, the UN Climate Change, NASA, MET Office, the MOD, the Environment Agency, and thousands of other organisations will descend on the Flood Expo to try and save the UK from similar devastating scenes witnessed this week.
Across the UK, over 300,000 commercial properties are estimated to be at risk of flooding. The winter of 2015 saw one of the wettest months in over a century. Over 4,600 businesses were flooded and total insurance claims by businesses was approximately £100m – with some estimating this cost to be significantly higher.
Climate change, coupled with the decreasing permeability of urban areas worldwide have increased the frequency and severity of floods seen in Huston, growing the Flood Expo’s importance, influence, and reputation as the event that all industry professionals need to attend.
The Flood Expo – an Environment Agency-supported event & the world’s largest exhibition & conference for flood professionals – is part of Europe’s most influential environmental event: Envirotex - incorporating the Marine & Coastal Civil Engineering Expo and the full Contamination Expo Series.
The show features over 220 expert-led CPD-accredited seminars, more than 370 innovative suppliers exhibiting, interactive panel debates, live demonstrations on the River Thames, one-to-one advice from industry experts, networking opportunities with 8,000 other environmental professionals, and more.
Event Director of the Flood Expo, Gary Hall, knows first-hand the importance of the two-day event, “the first thing you realise working on the show is how much people rely on it. The brightest minds in the sector travel across the globe to be here with the aim of uncovering the latest solutions that will turn the tide in the fight against severe flooding and prevent their devastation afflicting the UK in future”.
