A new video by the Tweed Forum and their partners is now available outlining the role of the Eddleston Water Project in the international Building with Nature (BwN) project. The Eddleston Water Project has been working with Building with Nature, which is funded by the Scottish Government and the European Union’s INTERREG North Sea Region Programme, for a number of years. The project aims to reduce flood risk and restore the Eddleston Water for the benefit of the local community and wildlife. It involves, river re-meandering of a channel that was straightened over 200 years ago, planting of over 200,000 trees and the creation of new wetlands to catch the surface water flow to hold water back. This should slow the speed and impact of floodwaters as well as creating new wildlife habitat, such as improved spawning for salmon. Building with Nature recognises that natural processes help to keep us safe against coastal erosion and flooding. The Eddleston Water Project is one of Building with Nature’s “living laboratories”, helping scientists and policymakers get the evidence they need to make the best decisions for flood risk management.
