Big give green match fund 2022

The Green Match Fund

We’re fundraising with the Green Match Fund to help us compile our State of Our Rivers report. Donations are matched so your money counts double — we need your help to reach our goal of £10,000!

We’re taking part in the Big Give’s Green Match Fund from the 22nd-29th April to raise money for this year’s State of our Rivers Report!

The Green Match Fund is a brilliant initiative where charitable donations are matched by the Big Give, allowing people’s donations to have DOUBLE the impact. It’s a great chance for people to make sure their money stretches further in helping the charitable causes they care about get the funding they need to continue their work. We’ve applied for a target of £10,000, meaning if we reach £10,000 in donations we will raise £20,000 to help use our report to save our rivers.

We published our first State of Our Rivers Report last year to provide a benchmark for the water sector, policy makers and environmental groups on all aspects of river health, from the root causes and the timescales we need to work within to take action on rivers, to the best solutions and how individuals can take action. The interactive report helps illustrate the data, translating it from sheets of excel files and figures into a digestible journey that uses videos, interactive maps, graphics and graphs to illustrate the details of the issues our rivers face for anyone who wants to learn about rivers. Have a browse of last year’s report and see what an amazing resource it is for learning about our rivers and what we need to do to save them.

The State of Our Rivers report is comprehensive analysis of the problems our rivers face and how we can protect them

We have already seen some positive impacts from the report. Last year’s inaugural report set the scene for a renewed ambition to achieve more for our rivers, which has helped strengthen the Environment Act and build greater public awareness and concern for river pollution. Since the report’s publication, we’ve seen a greater number of policy discussions surrounding river health – from banning wet wipes to tackling sewage discharges.

Media coverage of the state of our rivers has sky-rocketed too! Major outlets have been reporting regularly on big pollution events, the release of sewage overflow data – which we helped communicate with the new features of our updated interactive Sewage Map – and fines levied against water companies for destructive pollution incidents.

With just 4 days left to make your donations count, now is the perfect time to give generously and help us in our work to ensure we have healthy, thriving rivers.
