About Bristol Avon Rivers Trust (BART) Founded in 2012, the Bristol Avon Rivers Trust (BART) was created to restore and protect the rivers of the Bristol Avon. To support our mission, we are seeking an innovative, experienced, and flexible individual to lead our River Recovery Team in restoring the region’s rivers. As the Head of River Recovery, you will be responsible for developing, designing, coordinating and overseeing all aspects of River Restoration, Nature-Based Solutions, and Natural Flood Management. We’re seeking someone with excellent technical knowledge, a strategic approach, and a proven ability to motivate a team. You will lead the Trust’s River Recovery Team (currently 7 staff) ranging from early-career professionals to seasoned experts, and work closely with stakeholders, including government agencies, private companies, community groups, and other environmental charities. As a Head of Department, you will provide leadership for your team and develop and implement strategies in line with the Trust’s charitable objectives and plan. As a member of the Trust’s Management Team, your role will be pivotal in the effective management of the organisation, working collaboratively across all teams. Evidence Project Officer

Purpose of the job The successful candidate will be employed as part of the Evidence Team working in a supportive, dynamic and fast-moving environment. While the post is initially funded for 2 years, there is likely to be further funding to work on projects related to water quality monitoring/​modelling and nature-based solutions beyond this date. The role is to lead delivery of various projects within the Evidence Program, working closely with a variety of project partners and focusing on evidencing water quality pollution issues, identifying opportunities for pollution mitigation using nature-based treatment solutions and monitoring their effectiveness. Projects vary from local and national scale to international collaborations. You will work on new and existing models (such as road runoff, contaminant flows), undertake water quality monitoring and dataset analysis and provide advice and guidance on the best nature-based solutions. Monitoring existing treatment wetlands you will work alongside the local community and citizen scientists in order to enhance the evidence base and drive solutions to pollution. This job would suit somebody with experience in the field of environmental modelling, monitoring water quality and/​or nature-based solutions. Catchment Officer

The South East Rivers Trust has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is keen to make a positive, lasting difference to the aquatic environment in the south east of England. The Role We are seeking a Catchment Officer, to lead our work in two catchments across our area. You will be our primary representative in your focal catchments, and will be responsible for leading and chairing the local Catchment Partnerships. Through your Catchment Partnership work, you will develop a deep local knowledge of your rivers and their stakeholders, which you will leverage to develop programs of data and evidence gathering that will help to understand the issues impacting river health in the catchments. Based on this knowledge, you will work with partners to develop catchment plans and co-design solutions and mitigation projects that will provide multiple benefits and make a real difference to river health. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with a level of scientific and/​or technical expertise, for example in land management, wetland design, aquatic biodiversity, habitat enhancement, nature-based solutions, biodiversity net gain, natural flood management, fisheries science, water resources, or water quality. You will bring this expertise to our Catchment Partnerships and share it across the whole of our organisation. Geomorphology and Woodland Officer

Background The Wyre Rivers Trust (WRT) is a registered charity with a remit to improve the ecological status of the river Wyre and its catchment. Founded by three angling clubs and supported by many community groups, the Trust started small with localised projects to improve habitat, especially spawning conditions, for all fish species and completed with contractors and volunteers. However, since 2013 the Trust has grown, became host of the Wyre Waters Catchment Partnership and is now delivering works at the catchment scale with a host of far-reaching benefits. Projects address a range of issues impacting upon biodiversity, water quality, and water quantity, and tackle these with solutions such as natural flood management, habitat creation and habitat connectivity. The Trust has recently created an Integrated Catchment Plan containing a comprehensive list of priorities within the Wyre catchment, reviewed, and agreed by our partners. Following this process, the Trust was successful in securing funding to support the Brock and Calder Landscape Recovery Project, one of a number of national projects working to deliver the highest tier of the Environmental Land Management Schemes. Within this project, there are five posts which WRT will recruit for within the first 6 months of the project development phase. A key part of the Brock and Calder Landscape Recovery project is highlighting the plight of freshwater and woodland habitats and species, especially in an upland setting. In order to do this, the project will employ a Geomorphology and Woodland Officer who will be responsible for the delivery of actions related to the development of project plans to support a long-term programme of delivery. The actions will be varied but will focus on freshwater habitats (i.e fluvial audits and habitat condition assessment) and woodlands (i.e. woodland management plans) and on ensuring that the needs of these habitats are suitably reflected in the aforementioned plans. The officer will also work closely with the Conservation and Engagement Officer to develop and freshwater ecosystem engagement strategy for the project. The role will be split between home-based working in the north Lancashire area and the Wyre RT Offices in Myerscough, Lancashire. The candidate will be expected to work across the entire catchment and a large amount of time within any given week will be spent outside. The officer will report to the BCLR Project Manager and Wyre Rivers Trust General Manager. Job Purpose: The Geomorphology and Woodland Officer will be responsible for the delivery of multiple actions related to the project and the development of key plans during the development phase. The GWO will work to deliver actions related to woodland management plans, fluvial audits and aquatic habitats. These actions will inform the Land Management Plan and the Monitoring and Evaluation Plan and ensure that each reflects the needs of freshwater ecosystems within the project area. The GWO will also help to contribute to stakeholder engagement by working with the Conservation and Engagement Officer to develop a freshwater ecosystem engagement strategy which highlights the pressures faced by freshwater habitats and species. Person Description: The successful candidate will be an exceptional self-starter with the motivation, vision and passion for ensuring that greater value is placed on the river Wyre becoming cleaner and healthier environment. They must be a good communicator with a passion for conservation and knowledge of freshwater and upland environments. Ideally the candidate will also have an excellent knowledge of geomorphology, particularly in relation to upland rivers and the natural processes that should be present within them. In addition the candidate should have some knowledge of woodlands, woodland creation techniques and woodland management strategies. Senior Project Officer (Water & Land Stewardship)

The South East Rivers Trust (SERT) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is keen to gain more experience in river and catchment enhancement work — making a positive, lasting difference to the aquatic environment in the south east of England. The role The Water and Land Stewardship Team (W&LS) lead the identification and delivery of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to improve rivers and catchments across the South East. Through evidence, stakeholder engagement and on-the-ground experience, this new senior role will lead and develop NbS project opportunities. You will aim for impact, scale and collaboration. You will be responsible for delivering projects to scale up NbS across the SERT area, and lead the South East demos’ for the Ofwat Innovation Mainstreaming Nature-based Solutions project, a flagship five-year innovation project with water industry partners across the UK. Working with colleagues at SERT to deliver NbS measures on the ground will give you the opportunity to make a real difference, using this to help regulators and policy makers address barriers and build enablers for NbS at scale. You will lead walkovers, report on project opportunities identified, and develop projects on the ground, including natural flood management, riparian corridor enhancement and land management to increase catchment resilience. You will work closely with land managers to co-design feasible NbS options delivering multiple benefits. Your recommendations will be informed by data and evidence, and part of your role will be contributing to the effective collation of this across the Trust and the region. This will include identifying and reviewing nature market opportunities including through Biodiversity Net Gain, water resource, natural flood management and water quality, and you will look to capitalise on these opportunities and find ways to combine them with public funding (e.g. developing agri-environment schemes) to develop blended funding approaches. Working with our regional water companies, you will use your understanding of their drivers and processes to find ways of delivering more nature-based solutions with them in our catchments, building on existing relationships and projects within the Trust and the wider Rivers Trust movement. Crucially, you will take a collaborative partnership approach, building close relationships with our regional water companies, farmer clusters and other NGOs as well as regulators and local authorities, and provide a vision for these stakeholder groups to drive improvement of our rivers and catchments. This role is varied and allows for an individual to take ownership for their own projects, seeking and developing resolutions whilst working collaboratively with several organisations and individuals, as well as learn new skills and grow within a supported environment.
