The Rivers Trust has been working with Belu as one of their impact partners since 2019, supporting them on their water stewardship journey by identifying opportunities to back collaborative action on water and investment in nature based solutions.
Belu is a drinks company and social enterprise supplying mineral water, water filtration systems, tonics and mixers to the hospitality and workplace sector. Belu give 100% of their net profits to WaterAid (£5.8m since 2011) and are committed to their purpose to ‘change the way the world sees water’, investing all remaining profit in their impact partnerships. In 2021 Belu made the decision to move away from opaque carbon offsetting initiatives and instead chose to redirect funding to invest in their impact partnerships and fund nature-based solutions in and around the UK, starting with their mineral water source in Montgomeryshire, Wales.
As part of their commitment to water stewardship, they are working with The Rivers Trust movement to explore approaches to save water and reduce the water related risks to their business and identify the opportunities to collaborate and address the issues affecting the local catchments where they operate. Their support to local trust Thames 21 has enabled river restoration work along the river Ravensbourne in Bromley, allowing the river to flow freely again and improving the underwater habitat to facilitate fish movement.
As part of their wider goal to change the way the world sees water and invest in nature-based projects which benefit waterways, wildlife and improve the health and wellbeing of local communities, Belu also support our activities on developing digital assets on natural flood management and are one of this year’s corporate sponsors for The Big River Watch.
