Press Statement: Guidance on pesticides is helpful but blanket ban must follow
At today’s Wild Summit, the government announced that new guidance on pesticides will be published, making it clear that emergency authorisation of banned pesticides must fully consider the risks they pose to pollinators.

Wild, healthy, natural rivers are the vision of The Rivers Trust and they are fundamental to a future where our economy and communities are thriving. However, to support the achievement of this goal we need to see a firm commitment from Government to fully end the use of toxic neonicotinoid pesticides, given their devastating impact not only upon pollinators but our wider environment including the aquatic life in our rivers.
Rob Collins, Director of Policy and Science at The Rivers Trust highlights, “We also urgently need to see action on chemical pollution more broadly, by banning the most toxic, tackling them at source and using them much more sustainably.”
We are delighted be involved in vital conversations about nature at the Wild Summit today and look forward to demonstrating how we can achieve a nature-rich network of rivers by Making Space for Water to revive and protect our landscapes and cities and make them fit for the future.
