EDF has today announced that they are reconsidering the use of an acoustic fish deterrent at Hinkley Point C.

Mark Lloyd, Chief Executive, says:

“After trying to wriggle out of their commitment to protect millions of fish at Hinkley Point C with an acoustic deterrent, we are very pleased to see that EDF are now reconsidering, and will continue to examine their proposals as they develop. However, any deterrent at Hinkley will not be completely effective and so they should also commit to mitigation of the impact of the new power station by restoring some of the degraded areas of the Severn estuary which are important for several iconic fish species, as well as improving fish passage in all the rivers flowing into it.”
