The Rivers Trust is embarking on an exciting three-year partnership with Amazon Web Services and Meta in Ireland, initiating a dynamic collaboration to unearth opportunities and execute transformative, large-scale, nature-driven solutions. The ambition of the project is to replenish 100 million gallons of water that is abstracted by businesses across catchments in Ireland for operational needs.

In the first year of this initiative, The Rivers Trust is appointing a dedicated Water Stewardship Project Manager —the first role of its kind in Ireland. They will spearhead corporate-community alliances, champion water stewardship, and facilitate the replacement of freshwater resources.

The new, dedicated Water Stewardship Project Manager will be the catalyst for identifying promising prospects and nurturing 'shovel-ready' nature-based projects across the greater Dublin Area and eastern seaboard region of Ireland.

Collaborating closely with communities, stakeholders, landowners, and farmers, they will cultivate a vibrant pipeline of projects poised for future development. These projects may include the restoration of wetlands and peatlands and the creation of thriving riparian habitats. Additionally, the Water Stewardship Project Manager will also work closely with local River Trusts, empowering them to envision and cultivate future water improvement projects.

Meta and Amazon Web Services have both set ambitious goals to be water-positive in 2030. This means they will restore more water than they consume globally, including in Ireland. To meet this goal, Meta and Amazon Web Services are working to support local water conservation and restoration projects. These initiatives restore local habitats that promote biodiversity and recreation, boost water supply and reliability, enhance water quality and provide safe drinking water. This partnership will support this goal by identifying potential projects in Ireland.
