One donation, twice the impact! Support our work with the Big Give Christmas Challenge
From now until midday on the 10th of December, every donation to The Rivers Trust via The Big Give Christmas Challenge will be doubled at no extra cost to you!

Today, December 3rd, is Giving Tuesday: the charitable cousin to Black Friday when the focus shifts from seeking bargains, to spending our pounds and pennies with purpose.
If you’ve ever thought about supporting our work restoring rivers in the UK and Ireland, now is a great time.
Why?
Because from now until midday on December 10th, every donation to The Rivers Trust made through The Big Give Christmas Challenge will be doubled!
Thanks to match-funding, your gift of £10 becomes £20 for us, or your £50 becomes £100, at no extra cost to you. That means your generosity goes twice as far to protect and restore our vital waterways.
Our fundraising target is ambitious, but so are our plans for rivers in 2025.
For example, we’re going to:
- Keep updating our Sewage Map so that you can learn more about the health of your local river
- Bring the Big River Watch to more communities
- Make sure we’re the trusted experts advising on the future of our rivers the while Government make plans regarding our waterways
- And continue to support over 65 local Rivers Trusts.

There are other ways to help, too.
Giving Tuesday is about donating your time as well as your cash. Learn about volunteering with your local Trust, or head over to our social media channels (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Threads, Bluesky) where your likes and shares will help us reach more people who might be concerned about the health of our rivers.
Our rivers are in a desperate state, and our work is far from done. No single stretch of river in England or Northern Ireland is in good overall health and just 15% of English, 31% of Northern Irish and 50% of Irish river stretches reach good ecological health standards.
In the words of our CEO, Mark Lloyd:
“If we all keep working together, it really is possible for us to achieve our mission of wild, healthy, natural rivers for all.”
So, will you stand with us and help fight for our rivers?
Every contribution—big or small—brings us closer to our £90,000 target and helps us protect rivers. Thank you.
