The Big River Watch Spring Weekend

From the 3rd-6th of May, we're excited for the return of The Big River Watch!

Throughout the whole weekend, we're inviting everyone in the UK and Ireland to download our free app and take part in our easy citizen science survey, to help us build a large-scale picture of river health. And the best part is, you'll spend 15 meaningful minutes connecting with nature, so it's good for our rivers and for you!

Rivers are suffering from sewage, plastic, chemical and nutrient pollution – no single stretch of river in England is classed as in good overall health. To change this, we need to know where our rivers are having the problems and which problems are the most prevalent.

The Big River Watch survey (available in English and Welsh) is your chance to make a difference. Data gathered during each of our twice-yearly Big River Watch weekends can support policy change; helping turn the tide on plastics or stem the flow of untreated sewage. It also helps identify the best places for river clean-ups, or the creation of things like wetlands.

Whether you’re a swimmer or a paddler, an angler or a rambler, a wildlife spotter or a sit-and-watch-er, this is a chance to be part of the movement improving our freshwater spaces!
