Senior Project Manager

The Mersey Rivers Trust (MRT) is an environmental charity focusing on the protection and enhancement of rivers and waterbodies in the Mersey Catchment. It operates in an area covering Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. The Trust works with partners, local communities and volunteers to deliver a wide range of projects including river restoration, reduction of flood risk by Natural Flood Management techniques, river monitoring, volunteer events (e.g. river clean-ups/invasive species control and citizen science), community engagement and education events, farm advice/​plans and biodiversity net gain. We have a vacancy for a Senior Project/​Partnership Manager to join a dynamic and dedicated team who are committed to delivering collaborative environmental river-based improvements. The Trust hosts three successful CaBA (Catchment Based Approach) partnerships in the Alt Crossens, Lower Mersey and Upper Mersey catchments. The role holder will focus on the hosting of the Alt Crossens and Lower Mersey partnerships in addition to working with other partnership groups and stakeholders in the area. The role will also include leading a team of three project managers responsible for the development and delivery of a portfolio of environmental river-based projects in the Alt Crossens and Lower Mersey catchments, including direct line management responsibilities. The role holder will report directly to the Operations and Delivery Director and will be a member of the senior leadership team. Project Manager

The island of Ireland is the fastest-growing area of the rivers trust movement, and as part of what will be a major team expansion across the island of Ireland in 2023, we are looking for a motivated and highly-organised person to fill a newly-created Project Manager role. This is a pivotal position, the first of its kind focusing on our operations in Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland, collaborating with a wider network of stakeholders including landowners, water companies, government and the NGO sector across the UK, Ireland, and occasionally Europe. You’ll be supported by the existing Rivers Trust project management team who are based in different locations all across the UK and Ireland. You’ll be involved in every stage of the project life-cycle, from initiation to completion and evaluation, ensuring that projects are delivered smoothly and effectively, on time and within scope and budget. Fisheries Technical Officer

Westcountry Rivers Trust (WRT) is recruiting a full time SEW Fisheries Technical Officer, initially on a two year fixed term contract with potential to be permanent thereafter. The starting salary for this role is £30,000 – 32,000 per annum salary (dependent on experience) with room for progression. The role is 37.5 hours per week. The Trust offers flexible working. The role will be hybrid working with a mixture of home-based working and office with site visits. The Trust office is in Stoke Climsland, Nr Callington, Cornwall. The role is to work on the river Exe and the Strategic Exe Weirs (SEW) project which is focused on upstream and downstream migration of salmon, trout and other migratory species and in particular dealing with the many weirs and barriers on the river. Time will be apportioned approx. 60% on the barriers to migration and approx. 40% on a wide variety of programmes such as habitat improvement, fish surveys, GIS database management and helping the partnership understand and improve management of the river. Substantial progress has already been achieved with the first new fish pass installed in 2022 and others at an advanced planning/​implementation phase. About the Westcountry Rivers TrustFormed in 1994, the Trust was established to restore Westcountry rivers. Measures to protect rivers can help to save money for farmers, lower costs for water companies, boost tourism, reduce the need to dredge estuaries and even benefit human health. Everything the Trust does is informed by the best available science. Their work is driven by an ecosystems approach,’ considering the function of the entire catchment, not just the rivers that flow within them.Today the charity works with a wide range of stakeholders from landowners to local communities, businesses, farmers and water companies to restore and protect the rivers, lakes, estuaries and coastal areas for the benefit of people, wildlife and the local economy. Woodlands for Water Officer

We are looking for a collaborative and pro-active individual to advise and lead on the identification of opportunities for, and the establishment of, hydrologically useful’ tree planting and woodland creation in a number of river catchments across Northern Ireland and in the border-counties of Ireland. Working alongside our team of Farm Advisors, this role will support farmers and landowners in the creation of new woodlands, ensuring that planting takes place in appropriate locations. It will also advise on and assist with funding applications for landowners, including to the Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs (DAERA) Forestry Grants. Working with various partners, strategic tree planting will protect and enhance the quality of some of Northern Ireland’s and Ireland’s border counties’ rivers to increase climate resilience and support the recovery of biodiversity, by improving the connectivity of habitat along our river valleys; reducing the effects of diffuse pollution; and providing Natural Flood Management (NFM) and the storage of carbon. This is a brand new role in The Rivers Trust’s operations on the island of Ireland and an exciting opportunity to join a growing team, helping to make a meaningful contribution to environmental protection and improvement.
